"Challenge yourself, make new friends and share in the thrill of racing."
The Annual Kincardine Women's Triathlon (KWT) strives to empower women through healthy competition and sport. The KWT is a non-profit event supporting Ontario March of Dimes.
The race is open to females aged 14 and over; both individuals and relay teams. The majority of participants are new to the sport, with many participating in the relay. The KWT provides a friendly supportive race environment for first timer and experienced participants. This event features a 375m swim, 12k bike and a 3k run. Women benefit from the support of Kincardine Triathlon Club members who run pre-race Clinics and help in transition and on the course. All participants receive t-shirts, race kits, prizes, after-race BBQ. All finishers receive medals.
All proceeds raised by the KWT are donated to Ontario March of Dimes’ Assistive Devices Program in Kincardine. The program provides partial funding to more than 1,400 people a year for the purchase and maintenance of assistive equipment such as manual and motorized wheelchairs, walkers, canes, bath aids / lifting equipment, adapted telephones and more. The funds raised by the KWT are used to assist people with disabilities in the local Kincardine community.
As of June 2011, the Kincardine Triathlon has raised a total year-over-year contribution of $77,000! Proceeds are used in March of Dimes’ Assistive Devices Program.
This record donation has benefited residents of the Kincardine area significantly. As of 2011, proceeds from the Kincardine Triathlon have improved the lives of 215 residents through the purchase or repair of 428 devices including mobility aids like wheelchairs and walkers, home and bath aids such as bed rails and grab bars, and electronic aids such as specialized telephones. March of Dimes’ Assistive Devices counselors work with local community partners to stretch the value of this donation as far as possible. The total value of equipment purchased has reached in excess of $390,000.
In 2010, the Kincardine Triathlon contributed $11,000 to March of Dimes’ Assistive Devices Program. In 2011, a generous donation of $5,800 was provided from the Kincardine Triathlon.
Ontario March of Dimes gratefully acknowledges the generous support of the Kincardine Women’s Triathlon. The KWT has been inducted into one of the highest donor recognition categories for Ontario March of Dimes: The Paul Martin Senior Society. The Paul Martin Senior Society recognizes outstanding donors who follow the inspirational legacy of a great Canadian who, as Minister of Health and Welfare, introduced universal polio vaccination to Canada.
