Walk 'n' Roll for Aphasia
York Durham Aphasia Centre (YDAC), a program of March of Dimes Canada, is holding a series of fundraisers to help raise awareness of aphasia.
On various dates throughout June, YDAC will be holding Walk 'n' Roll fundraisers to help celebrate Aphasia Awareness Month.
These events will help raise awareness of aphasia - the partial or total loss of the ability to articulate ideas or comprehend spoken or written language, resulting from damage to the brain caused by injury, stroke or disease. People with aphasia may have problems speaking, understanding speech, using numbers or reading and writing. These difficulties can range from mild to severe in nature.
The Walk 'n' Roll is the perfect opportunity to foster a spirit of community involvement and support a great cause. The event is open to people of all ages and abilities. The proceeds will be raised by YDAC clients, staff and volunteers, and will fund critical programs and services for persons who have survived a stroke, a brain injury or who face other health challenges and are now living with aphasia.
Participants raise pledges from friends, family, neighbours, coworkers, etc., in return for a commitment to walk, or roll their YDAC location. Peterborough and Richmond Hill will be holding a game-a-thon.
Walk 'n' Roll events will be held in Richmond Hill, Stouffville, Newmarket, Whitby, Peterborough and Maple.
