Montreal executives play “Rock Star” to raise money for families with disabilities at the ninth annual Rock for Dimes.
Join Montreal’s top executives as they take to the stage at the ninth annual Rock for Dimes Battle of the Bands fundraising event. Six bands will shake the Theatre Corona on Saturday, November 21, 2014 with the goal of raising an estimated $30,000 for families living with physical disabilities.
The Writeoffs, MTL, The Sharx, PS, Exiled on the Main and Nobody’s Business will be competing for bragging rights as Montreal’s best corporate band in front of judges music journalist Rick Keene, musician Stefano Guadignino, music therapist Hélene Engel and Michael Izzo of AMG Medical Supplies.
In addition to the music, guests will enjoy food and the chance to win fabulous prizes. All proceeds benefit March of Dimes Canada’s programs and services for people with disabilities.
For the first time, to help Quebec residents with physical disabilities, March of Dimes Canada, through the Istvan and Barbara Haas Assistive Devices and Vehicle Retrofit Fund, will provide $10,000 to a successful candidate to acquire or modify a personal assistive, mechanical or technical device that enables an individual with a physical disability to access or participate in a recreational pursuit.
André Bougie is the grateful recipient of the funding. André lives with spina bifida and uses a manual wheelchair. Declining health and strength have made it harder for him to pursue the sports and recreational pursuits he so loves. He will use the funding towards the purchase of an electric wheelchair to play modified soccer. He is also the new President of Powerchair Soccer Canada, and the funding will help him grow this sport across Canada.
André will be formally recognized at Rock for Dimes Montreal.
Through a series of competitions across Canada, the Istvan and Barbara Haas fund will grant between $10,000 - $15,000 to successful candidates, depending on region and need, towards recreational devices or vehicle retrofits. Funding comes from the estate of the late John Haas, who designated that funds be allocated to the acquisition of assistive devices, or vehicle retrofits for people whose needs are both physical and financial, and that the fund would be in memory of his late parents who were Holocaust survivors. Whenever possible, the candidate(s) will be recognized at a Rock for Dimes fundraiser in his/her province.
“We couldn’t be more excited about staging Rock for Dimes again in Montreal,” says Mary Lynne Stewart, Director of Fund Development and Communications for March of Dimes Canada. “Being able to fund Mr. Bougie and know that he will pay this forward to kids with disabilities across the country makes this event even more special.”
