Local amateur musicians to raise money for a great cause.
On Sunday, August 16, 2015 musicians will take to the stage at Loughborough Lake Holiday Park to raise an estimated $5,000 for people living with physical disabilities at the Rock for Dimes fundraiser. This is the second time the event has been held in Kingston.
Sweet Talk Jackie, Richard Cranium, 2 Hands High and The Bon Evans Band will battle it out for the title of Kingston’s best band. Bill Welychka will be the evening’s host. After the competition and a short intermission, guests can stay to hear New World Men, a RUSH cover band. For the ticket price of $25, guests also have the opportunity to camp for a night.
All proceeds benefit March of Dimes Canada’s Campers Helping Campers program. Campers Helping Campers is an annual fund raising program that takes place from May-October and involves the generous support of staff, volunteers, campers and members of Camping In Ontario.
Funds raised through Campers Helping Campers are used to support participants in March of Dimes Canada’s Outdoor Recreation Programs. Funds are used to subsidize the costs associated with supporting a person who lives with a disability so they can enjoy a summer camping experience. Costs that are covered include: specialized travel to and from the camp, meals, attendant care, accommodations, supplies and day trips.
“We’re really excited to be holding this fundraiser for the first time in Kingston, which has been such a supportive community for March of Dimes Canada for many years," says Mary Lynne Stewart, Director of Fund Development for March of Dimes Canada. “Rock for Dimes will help us offer more recreational programming to people with disabilities,” she continues.
National sponsors include Airgo Mobility, Long & McQuade, Sun Media, Vantage Mobility (VMI) Agency 59 and local sponsors are Loughborough Lake Holiday Park, Kingston Sound Works, Renaissance Music, Echo Hair Studios, Kingston Tourism KEDCO and media sponsors FM 96, Fresh104.3 and CKWS television.
