HALIFAX ROCKS FOR MARCH OF DIMES CANADA!
Annual battle of the bands raises $30,000 for local programs
For Immediate Release – If you weren’t at the Cunard Centre for Rock for Dimes Halifax 2016, you missed the showdown of the year and March of Dimes Canada celebrity spokesperson Bret ‘The Hitman’ Hart.
Eight local bands – Impulse, Red C, Terminal Road, Spare Parts, Gene Featuring Jean, The Showcase Showdowns, and Blue M’Ocean – flexed their musical muscles for an enthusiastic audience and a panel of judges, and supported March of Dimes Canada while they did.
Picking a winner was tough, but The Showcase Showdowns edged out their competition to win the coveted title of Halfiax’s best corporate band.
Red C raised the most money.
Rock for Dimes Halifax raised an impressive total of $30,000, all of which will benefit March of Dimes Canada programs for children and adults with disabilities. The money will stay here in Halifax, supporting Stroke Recovery Canada® and Conductive Education®.
“Halifax is a wonderful city for this event ,’ said Andria Spindel, President and CEO of March of Dimes Canada. ‘The generosity here helps us to support Haligonians with disabilities.”
For the second year in a row, March of Dimes Canada also provided eight individuals with disabilities with a customized smart tablet through its Assistive Mobile Technology Program. Diane MacDonald, Donald Thibodeau, Milena Khazanavicius, Maram Salman, Deborah Murley, Zachary Mitchell, Gerianne Hull, and Stanley Gilbert were selected by a local volunteer committee to receive the tablets, which will be loaded with apps to help them communicate and live more independently.
“Technology is opening up so many doors for our consumers. Most of us use tablets for fun or convenience, but they can also be tools to independence,” Spindel added.
Our very generous sponsors are: Stewart McKelvey, McInnes Cooper, Emera, Airgo, Canadian Music Therapy Trust Fund, Agency 59, Long+McQuade, The Coast, Q104, Cox+Palmer, BMO, Presse Mason, IMP Solutions, Scotiabank, and the Cunard Centre.
