MONTREAL ROCKS FOR MARCH OF DIMES CANADA!
10th annual battle of the bands raises more than $18,000 for local programs
For Immediate Release – Tenth time’s the charm! If you weren’t at the Theatre Corona for Rock for Dimes Montreal 2016, you missed the showdown of the year and a decade of rocking out for March of Dimes Canada.
Seven local bands – Miss M & The Gents, The Cellar Rats, MTL, The Sharx, Exiled on the Main, pS, and Nobody’s Business – flexed their musical muscles for an enthusiastic audience and a panel of judges, and supported Montrealers with disabilities while they did.
Picking a winner was tough, but Miss M & the Gents edged out their competition to win the coveted title of Montreal’s best corporate band.
Rock for Dimes Montreal raised over $18,000, all of which will benefit March of Dimes Canada programs for children and adults with disabilities. The money will stay here in Montreal, supporting Stroke Recovery Canada® and Conductive Education®.
“Montreal has been hosting this event for a decade, now,’ said Dennis Ullman, Associate Director of Special Events and Community Relations, Fund Development with March of Dimes Canada, ‘and the generosity here helps us to support Montrealers with disabilities.”
For the second year in a row, two individuals with disabilities received a customized tablet through MODC’s Assistive Mobile Technology Program. Pierre Provencher and Johanne Boivin were selected by a local volunteer committee to receive the tablets, which will be loaded with apps to help them communicate and live more independently.
“Technology can open up so many doors, when used correctly. To most of us, tablets are fun or convenient, but they can also be pathways to independence,” Ullman added.
