Starting January 29, 2017, the public can help support March of Dimes Canada by making a donation at any of the more than 650 LCBO stores throughout Ontario. Donation boxes for March of Dimes Canada will be displayed at LCBO checkout counters until February 25, 2017.
March of Dimes Canada provides a range of programs and services to Canadians living with disabilities. This includes rehabilitative programs, employment services, recreational opportunities, and peer support networks, all designed to maximize independence. During its 65 year history, the organization has grown from a grass-roots fundraising effort in Ontario to a national presence. Last year, March of Dimes Canada touched over 75,000 lives and logged nearly 4 million service hours.
Donations collected through the LCBO will go towards March of Dimes Canada’s Conductive Education® program, a unique form of rehabilitation for children with neurological motor disorders like cerebral palsy and spina bifida.
“One adult Conductive Education class costs $25,” says Mary Lynne Stewart, National Director of Fund Development and Communications for March of Dimes Canada. “That represents about 25% of the total cost, so donations go a long way to making this life-changing rehabilitation affordable for people who need it. The funds raised through the LCBO will make a real difference to a lot of Ontarians, so thank you on behalf of all the people who benefit from our programs. Your generosity is greatly appreciated.”
“As a socially responsible community-minded retailer, LCBO is pleased to partner with March of Dimes Canada and support a variety of worthy causes through the Giving Back In Our Community fundraising program,” says LCBO President & CEO George Soleas. “Through the generosity of LCBO customers and the support of our staff, we help improve the lives of countless Ontarians and make a difference in communities across Ontario.”
March of Dimes Canada is one of 28 provincial and numerous local charities that will benefit from LCBO’s province-wide donation box program in 2016. In fiscal 2015 -16, LCBO raised a total of more than $10.9 million for charities through in-store fundraising, special programs and initiatives. In addition, LCBO’s annual dividend transfer to the Ontario government, which totaled $1.935 billion in fiscal year 2015-16 ending March 31, 2016, excluding taxes, supports a wide range of important government programs, services and priorities, including health care and education.
March of Dimes Canada thanks the public for its support when shopping at their local LCBO store from January 29 – February 25 2017.
