National Access Awareness Week "Breaking the Barrier" Awards Nominations Wanted


March 21, 2013 - St. Catharines March of Dimes is seeking nominations for its 14th annual “Breaking the Barrier” Awards, recognizing people, businesses and organizations that have promoted integration or equal access for people with disabilities.  Past recipients of the Breaking the Barrier Awards have been business owners who have made their business barrier-free, employers who have hired people with disabilities, or volunteers who have devoted their time to helping empower those with disabilities to achieve independence.
 
The awards will be presented at the “Breaking the Barrier” Awards ceremony on Wednesday, May 29, 2013, at St. John Ukrainian Hall, 91 Lakeshore Rd. in St. Catharines. All citizens of Niagara are invited to attend the ceremony, which will feature a keynote address from Margaret Sanderson, Accessibility (AODA) Coordinator at Brock University who will discuss accessibility issues in the community.
 
The presentations will be followed by a Ukrainian luncheon, raffles and displays by local community organizations providing services for people with disabilities.
