Join Eric Howk of Portugal. The Man on Giving Tuesday,
and support March of Dimes Canada's L.I.F.E. Program
Meet Eric Howk.
Most of the time, Eric is busy touring the world with his band Portugal. The Man,
playing guitar on their hit song “Feel it Still.
” But this November, Eric is speaking out for March of Dimes Canada and youth with disabilities.
Leading up to Giving Tuesday on November 28, Eric will be helping us raise money for our Learning Independence for Future Empowerment (L.I.F.E.) program. L.I.F.E.’s goal is to give youth with disabilities the skills they need to transition into adulthood.
March of Dimes Canada currently offers L.I.F.E. in two cities, but Eric wants to help us bring the program to other cities across Canada. Donate to our Giving Tuesday campaign today so we can bring the L.I.F.E. program to more youth with disabilities.
L.I.F.E. is unique – it combines rehabilitation with practical workshops and fun excursions. Participants make friends, learn about budget planning – even how to take the bus alone, something that’s not taught in schools. And Eric understands the specific difficulties youth face because ten years ago, he was in an accident and became paraplegic.
It was just a regular Saturday night at a friend’s house that led to Eric’s injury. He fell down a hidden construction hole and broke three vertebrae, severing his spine. But he didn’t let his accident get in the way of his dreams. Eric re-learned how to play guitar, this time in his wheelchair, and got right back to doing what he loves most and has been touring and performing ever since.
Now Eric wants to make sure other youth get the chance to pursue their dreams the way he has. And L.I.F.E. might just be that first step!
Our generous donor Savaria
