Stroke Recovery Canada, a program of March of Dimes Canada, supports the development and ongoing operations of Chapter and Associate peer support groups:
Chapter: A Chapter is a peer support group that is a part of March of Dimes Canada and operates under our organization’s policies and procedures. Peer support groups that sign on as an official Chapter of March of Dimes Canada are entitled to numerous benefits, including use of the organization's charitable number, donation receipting, banking, insurance for events, meetings and fundraisers, and access to March of Dimes Canada’s resources, including monthly newsletters, conferences and monthly peer support group calls. Executive volunteers of Chapters are screened in accordance with March of Dimes Canada’s policies.
Associate: Peer support groups who sign on as Associate members of March of Dimes Canada are independently-run organizations that may be incorporated or a registered charity. Associate groups are responsible for their own banking, donation receipting and Canada Revenue Agency compliance (if they are a registered charity), and insurance. Associate members have access to insurance for March of Dimes Canada events and may access March of Dimes Canada’s resources, including monthly newsletters, conferences and monthly peer support group calls. Executive volunteers of Chapters are not screened by March of Dimes Canada.
Other Listed Groups: There are many stroke recovery support groups in Canada that are not Chapters or Associates of March of Dimes Canada, but who offer great services to stroke survivors and their family members. These support groups are run independently of March of Dimes Canada, and have their own policies and procedures. We list them on our website as a resource to stroke survivors and their families who live in a community where there is no Stroke Recovery Canada Chapter or Associate: click here. (This will link to a page that lists groups, by province, that aren’t MODC Chapters or Associates and will include a similar caveat to this paragraph at the top of the page).
