York-Durham Aphasia Centre offers group communications programs for adults with aphasia. Our team of speech-language pathologists and communicative disorder assistants work with trained volunteers to encourage learning and use of supportive communication strategies (written keywords, interactive drawings, gestures) to optimize language abilities. We also provide support for families learning about aphasia.
We believe that people with aphasia need specialized skill-building programs as a “bridge” to rebuild their lives in their home communities. Our programs focus on strengthening intact abilities and exploring new skills and interests and knowledge.
