Easter Seals Ontario and Ontario March of Dimes Update on Phase 2 of Project Continuum
(6/24/2009 3:02:15 PM)

(June, 2009) Ontario March of Dimes and Easter Seals Ontario are continuing to progress in Phase 2 of Project Continuum. The objective of Phase 2 is to confirm the feasibility of, and develop the programs and services associated with, the following five projects:

  • Potential Information Technology Shared Services
  • Potential Purchasing Shared Services
  • Equipment Funding Program
  • Recreational Services
  • Life Stage Transition Services.
With consulting support, Easter Seals Ontario and Ontario March of Dimes’ senior staff completed the detailed feasibility analysis of the Information Technology and Purchasing shared services opportunities. The analysis concluded that the Information Technology shared service was not feasible and will not be pursued further. The analysis also suggested that there may be limited opportunities in shared purchasing.

Easter Seals Ontario and Ontario March of Dimes have completed the co-development of an on-line Equipment Funding application process. The intent of the on-line process is to improve efficiency and effectiveness, and provide a continuum of service for all equipment funding activities. The on-line application will be launched in July 2009. The outcomes of the project will be evaluated in the coming months.

Project Continuum continues to deliver a Recreation Services pilot program. The purpose of the program is to provide recreational opportunities for young adults as they transition from youth programs to adult programs. An evaluation will inform the development of future self-financing recreational programs that will be operated jointly.

Easter Seals Ontario and Ontario March of Dimes continue the development of Life Stage Transition Services. The project has built upon existing relationships and a range of existing activities in a unique program intended to serve the needs of those moving from family-centered care towards independent living. The next phase of this project focuses on developing a sustainable funding model and a collaborative service model.

The purpose of Project Continuum is to explore options to maximize the resources of both organizations while providing a comprehensive and seamless continuum of services for children, youth and young adults with physical disabilities in Ontario. This project is funded through a grant from The Ontario Trillium Foundation. This communication is the eighth in a series of updates issued to keep you informed as the project progresses.
