First-ever Rock for Dimes Calgary a rockin' good time!
Some of Calgary’s finest amateur musicians took to the stage at The Whiskey Nightclub for the first-ever Rock for Dimes Calgary - at the same time raising money for families with physical disabilities. In addition to the concert, there was a host of other activities including a live and silent auction, all benefiting our Stroke Recovery Canada program.
bORDERLINE emerged victorious in an extremely close contest, winning out over Virtually Turbines and Fieldstones.
“After a year of planning, it was nice to see the event come to fruition, never mind it being so successful. Winning was secondary to being part of such a great event supporting such a worthwhile cause. Thanks to the organizing committee, the judges (the cheques are in the mail), and the two other bands!” said Gerry David of winning band bORDERLINE.
Brian Mack, on-air personality with media sponsor Q107 was on hand as both MC and judge. His fellow judges included MLA for Calgary-Buffalo Kent Hehr and CTV Calgary’s Evening News Anchor Barb Higgins.
“It was my pleasure, and a privilege! I felt it was a completely successful night, and would be honoured to be asked to come back next time,” said Brian Mack.
Rock for Dimes benefits March of Dimes‘ Stroke Recovery Canada Program, a national service offering post-recovery support, education and programs for stroke survivors, their families and health care providers. Through its work with local peer support groups across the country, Stroke Recovery Canada provides Canadians with the resources needed to help people survive and thrive after stroke. Over $10,000 was raised at the event in support of Stroke Recovery Canada.
The event was sponsored by Macleod Dixon, Field Law, BP Global, Pizza Hut, Stepping Stones Studio and radio station Q107.
Special thanks to the bands, judges, Q107 and Brian Mack, the many people who attended the event, and our outstanding volunteers, we couldn’t do it without you.
