Every ten minutes a Canadian will have a stroke.
There are over 300,000 stroke survivors in Canada, and every year another 50,000 join their ranks (Heart & Stroke Foundation, 2009). Studies show that 50 percent of people who return home after surviving a stroke do not have a meaningful activity to fill their day (Canadian Stroke Network, 2009).
“How can I reclaim my life and be as active and independent as possible, now that I am back in my community?”
Stroke Recovery Canada®, a program of March of Dimes Canada, was created to help stroke survivors and their family members regain their independence, find the support they need and learn how to survive and thrive after stroke.
Stroke Recovery Canada is a national service offering post-recovery support, education and community integration programs for stroke survivors, their caregivers, families and health care providers. Through its work with local peer support groups across the country, Stroke Recovery Canada provides Canadians with the resources needed to survive and thrive.
