Annual events:

Stroke Recovery Awareness Month / Photo Contest (May 2010).

   

For 2010, March of Dimes Canada is hosting a photo contest entitled "I'm a Survivor!" to help raise awareness inviting stroke survivors to submit photos. Submissions will show survivors living their life to the fullest. See our flyer or contact our Health and Education Promoter for more information.

Walk 'n' Roll (April 9-11, 2010).

 

Walk ‘n’ Roll is a national fundraising initiative for March of Dimes Canada Peer Support Services department which supports Stroke Recovery Canada®. This fundraiser was started by the Stroke Survivors Association of Ottawa, expanded provincially under March of Dimes Canada in 2009 and is now expanding nationally in 2010. The goal of the event is three-fold:

  • To raise funds for peer-support groups
  • To raise awareness in the community about your support group and Stroke Recovery Canada®/Polio Canada®
  • To provide a fun team event for your group

Aphasia Camp (September 2010).

 

Aphasia Camp is a recreational and relaxing weekend camp retreat for people who have aphasia. Aphasia Camp was founded in partnership with Adult Recreation Therapy Centre in Brantford, supported by many important community organizations, speech-language pathologists and volunteers. This communicatively-accessible and physically accessible weekend is an affordable fun and interactive get-away for people who have aphasia and their family and friends.

L.I.V.E Conference (November 2009).

The Leaders in Volunteer Education (L.I.V.E) conference is
something you and your peer support members won’t want to miss!
last November Peer Support hosted our annual 3-day training and networking
event for active members, current and future leaders in stroke, polio
and caregiver support groups across Canada.

Current Events:

Parents of Pediatric Stroke Survivors – Research Project (January - March 2010).

In partnership with McMaster University, Stroke Recovery Canada© is conducting a study to investigate the needs of this special population of stroke survivors and their caregivers.
We are looking for Parents of pediatric stroke survivors to share their unique stories with a researcher during an interview over the phone or in person. This research project aims to gain a better understanding of issues surrounding pediatric stroke and to help improve community resources and support. We appreciate your participation in this initiative!  Note: Personal information will be kept confidential and will not be disclosed unless you choose otherwise. Stroke Survivor & Caregiver Retreat 2009

March of Dimes Staff hosted the Stroke Survivor & Caregiver Retreat on May 12-14, 2009 to help raise awareness for Stroke Recovery as well as create the opportunity for stroke-survivors and their caregivers to continue on their journey of welness as they survive and thrive after experiencing a stroke.
