Since the 1950's, rheumatologists and orthopaedic surgeons from Toronto and other centres have volunteered their time to travel to communities such as Cochrane, Hearst and Kirkland Lake, to care for people who do not have specialists in their communities.
Every year the Northern Medical Clinics save hundreds of northern Ontario patients the time, trouble and expense of travelling to distant cities to see medical specialists and receive treatments.
Supported by our specialists, volunteers, host hospitals and various local organizations, the clinics have also received funding from the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care through its Northern Health Programs and Planning Branch.
