March of Dimes Canada's annual “Breaking the Barrier” Awards, recognizes people, businesses and organizations that have promoted integration or equal access for people with disabilities. Past recipients of the Breaking the Barrier Awards have been business owners who have made their business barrier-free, employers who have hired people with disabilities, or volunteers who have devoted their time to helping empower those with disabilities to achieve independence.  

The “Breaking the Barrier” Awards ceremony is held in St. Catharines where all citizens of Niagara are invited to attend the ceremony, and features a keynote address followed by a luncheon. The awards ceremony also includes door prizes, raffles, live entertainment and displays by local community organizations providing services for people with disabilities.
