January is March of Dimes Month
and the perfect time to join our
Community Canvass Campaign!
March of Dimes Community Canvass door-to-door campaign is the longest running fundraiser of its kind in North America. For over sixty-five years March of Dimes has depended on the kindness and generosity of Canadians who open their doors, heart and wallets during our annual campaign. This tradition started in 1949 when "Marching Mothers" went door to door to raise money for a polio cure. Thanks to their efforts, a vaccine was found and Canada was the first country to be declared polio-free.
Today, the 2017-18 Community Canvass campaign will see over 4,000 volunteer canvassers going door-to-door as well as online to help raise money for children and adults living with physical disabilities.
Your support allows us to help over 75,000 Canadians with disabilities that we serve. With your generous donations, we are able to offer a variety of donor-funded programs including Conductive Education®, Attendant Services, employment services, life skills training, recreational and social opportunities, funding for home safety equipment, vehicle modification, and support for polio and stroke survivors, people living with acquired brain injuries, their loved ones, and caregivers.
With the aging of our population, more Canadians than ever need our help.
The annual Community Canvass campaign runs until March 31st. You can also canvass online through our Online Campaign, found at www.marchofdimes.ca/communitycanvass, that lets people canvass family and friends in support of March of Dimes Canada from the comfort of their own home.
We all know that physical activities like walking are a crucial part of keeping healthy and recovering after a stroke. Some of us need extra support though, and Urban Poling's ACTIVATOR poles
can help you feel secure and confident while you get the activity you need.
Plus for the month of January, Urban Poling will also be donating 10% of the sales from ACTIVATOR poles purchased through their online store at urbanpoling.com
to March of Dimes Canada. Visit Urban Poling website
to learn more.
Please consider joining our online family!

Why I Canvass!
Peterborough resident Wayne Eastabrook has been canvassing his neighbourhood in support of March of Dimes Canada’s Community Canvass door-to-door campaign for over a decade. He became a canvasser after March of Dimes Canada provided financial assistance to help his daughter Kate move into her own supported apartment.
“I don’t believe that Kate would be able to be as independent and live on her own without the support of March of Dimes Canada,” says Wayne.
Each year he raises $300-$400 in his community. His neighbours know he’s coming, and are prepared with a small donation when Wayne comes to their door.
“I like to canvass in January, because how can anybody turn away a man in the cold,” jokes Wayne. “But really, I like to remind my neighbours that this a good cause, helping people in their community, and that every bit counts” he says.
Wayne believes in paying it forward, in addition to supporting March of Dimes Canada, he is also the Board President of Community Living Peterborough.
“I know that there are needs in the community, and somehow, we have to help,” says Wayne.
Join Wayne and March of Dimes Canada to help children and adults with physical disabilities living in your community increase their community participation and independence - donate today or sign up to be a canvasser in your neighbourhood at www.marchofdimes.ca/CommunityCanvass. Thank you!
