Bret Hart for Canada's Walk of Fame

Bret Hart for Canada’s Walk of Fame
March of Dimes Canada is pushing to nominate its Stroke Recovery Canada® spokesperson, Bret ‘Hitman’ Hart

March of Dimes Canada has joined a campaign started by Arda Ocal of The Score, to see Bret ‘Hitman’ Hart recognized by Canada’s Walk of Fame for his work in and out of the ring.

Every ten minutes a Canadian will have a stroke.  There are over 300,000 stroke survivors in Canada. One of Canada’s best-known survivors is Bret ‘Hitman’ Hart.

For over 20 years Bret entertained fans around the world winning numerous wrestling championships, becoming one of Canada's most recognizable icons.  In 2002, Bret overcame a devastating stroke, a defeat he calls his greatest victory.  Bret's stroke caused partial paralysis requiring months of physical therapy, but through his determination, he made a successful recovery.

Since 2007, Bret has been supporting March of Dimes. He became the spokesperson of Stroke Recovery Canada® in order to give back, and reach out to other survivors to give them hope. Bret feels very blessed at the extent of his recovery, and indebted to everyone who helped him after his stroke; his family, friends, supporters and the nurses and staff at Foothills Hospital in Calgary.

Bret has appeared at numerous events for March of Dimes Canada, connecting with fellow survivors and sharing his personal story of stroke recovery, his struggles and how in the immediate aftermath of his stroke, even the smallest achievements in regaining mobility, strength and emotional health were huge triumphs.  He hopes to inspire survivors and says “to never give up hope – it does get better everyday.”

Bret is a legendary Canadian wrestler, but to the thousands of people served by March of Dimes Canada, he is a champion out of the ring. For this reason and more, March of Dimes Canada urges people to support Bret Hart by nominating him for Canada’s Walk of Fame.

Nominations can be submitted at and will be accepted until April 30, 2012.
