Rock for Dimes Windsor
Local amateur musicians to raise money for a great cause.
For the first time, Windsor’s best amateur bands will take to the stage at the Rock for Dimes battle of the bands fundraiser.
On Saturday, June 2nd four bands will shake Average Joe’s Sports Bar to raise an estimated $10,000 for children with physical disabilities.
Overdrive 145, Pulp City Inn and Short Fiction will do battle at the event. Local favourite the Power and the Glory will provide the pre-show entertainment.
All proceeds benefit March of Dimes Canada’s Conductive Education® (CE) program and specifically the Academy of Conductive Education. CE is an innovative program that blends elements of education and rehabilitation to improve the independence, mobility and confidence of children with disabilities, and has been especially beneficial to children with cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis and developmental apraxia.
"Our Conductive Education program is one of the largest of its kind in the world and we serve hundreds of children and adults. Our program helps children build self-confidence and self-esteem," says Mary Lynne Stewart, Director of Fund Development and Communications.
“We’re really excited to be holding this fundraiser, which also takes place in Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto, London, Montreal and Halifax. Rock for Dimes will help us continue to offer the program to children both in Detroit, Michigan and the Windsor area and we hope it becomes an annual event,” she continues.
The event is sponsored by AMG Medical Supplies, Long & McQuade and Average Joe’s Sports Bar.
Doors will open at 7:00pm on Saturday, June 2nd at Average Joe’s located Riverside Banquet Hall on 1286 Lauzon Road. The event is open to the public. Tickets are $15 per person. For more information or to order tickets online visit www.rockfordimes.ca/windsor or call 416-425-3463 ext. 7380.
