Up Close and Personal with Alan Thicke at the Ability & Beyond Gala
The charity’s annual Ability & Beyond Gala, presented by Bell will feature Canadian icon Alan Thicke
On Thursday, June 13, guests at the Bell presents Ability & Beyond Gala will be inspired by the multi-talented Canadian legend Alan Thicke, and hear from special guest Bret ‘Hitman’ Hart, spokesperson for Stroke Recovery Canada®, a program of March of Dimes Canada. The dinner, in support of Stroke Recovery Canada® is taking place at the InterContinental Toronto Centre.
The Ability & Beyond Gala 2013’s speaker will focus on healthy living and aging well. The evening will present a unique opportunity for guests to be ‘up close and personal’ with Alan Thicke, who will share his experiences with aging, illness in the family and his life in Hollywood. The evening will be hosted by Global Toronto anchor Carolyn MacKenzie. Acclaimed singer Brian Melo will sing the national anthem.
In addition, sponsor Shoppers Home Health Care will be honoured with March of Dimes Canada’s Corporate Spirit Award for their long-time support of the organization. Dr. Michael Fehlings, Medical Director of the Krembil Neuroscience Centre and Dr. John Esdaile, the Scientific Director of the Arthritis Research Centre of Canada will both be honoured with the Jonas Salk Award for their significant achievements in the field of neuroscience and clinical epidemiology and rheumatic disease research respectively.
All proceeds benefit Peers Fostering Hope, which is also supported by the Dr. Ed & Bobby Yielding Fund for Stroke Recovery. Dr. Ed Yielding’s generous bequest will help other survivors to thrive in their recovery.
Peers Fostering Hope, an initiative of Stroke Recovery Canada®, seeks to help bridge the gap between hospital and community, sending qualified, trained volunteers, who are also stroke survivors, to visit people in the hospital who have recently had a stroke. Peers Fostering Hope is currently underway at Sunnybrook, Humber, WestPark, St. John’s Rehabilitation Facility, Toronto Rehabilitation Facility, Toronto Western Hospital, and Lakeridge Health.
The Gala will also include a live and silent auction. Attendees will be able to bid on exciting trips, sports memorabilia and home appliances, among many other exciting items.
