Rehabilitation Foundation for Disabled Persons, U.S. and ProCon.org to Partner on Celebrity Golf Tournament
Building on the success of the 2012 CCBC Celebrity Golf Classic, the Rehabilitation Foundation for Disabled Persons, U.S. an affiliate of March of Dimes Canada has linked with the educational charity ProCon.org to hold a major star-studded golf tournament on March 2, 2013.
Celebrity athletes and actors will be on hand at the Desert Dunes Golf Club in Desert Hot Springs, California. Guests can partake in a full weekend of events, kicking off with a cocktail reception at the Elvis Presley Estate on Thursday, February 28, a business luncheon and poolside VIP Reception on Friday, March 1 followed by the golf event and dinner on the Saturday.
The tournament, hosted by the Canada California Business Council, will support bilateral investment between Canada and California and funds raised will help expand services for people with physical disabilities in Western Canada, and further develop ProCon.org’s mission of promoting critical thinking, education, and informed citizenship by presenting controversial issues in a straightforward, nonpartisan, primarily pro-con format.
Guests will have the chance to meet and mingle with such notables including:
• Athletes: Retired NHL players Luc Robitaille and Cale Hulse, retired NBA player Kiki Vandeweghe, senior golf pro Steve Pate
• Actors: George Lopez, Anthony Anderson, Craig T. Nelson, Gena Lee Nolin, Sheila Shah, Kate Linder, Jeremy Sumpter, Jack McGee, Stephen Bishop
The tournament will also feature government and business leaders working both in the US and Canada in the fields of business development, law, politics, and entertainment.
Winter-weary Canadians looking for an escape from the cold have been breathing life into Palm Springs. Every January weekly, more than 3,000 Canadians fly into Palm Springs. Over the last year, 80% of homes purchased in Palm Springs were by Canadians, Canadians are the #1 foreign employer by size of payroll in Riverside County, Desert Dunes Golf Club, the host of the golf tournament is Canadian-owned, with more than 35 employees.

Canada California Business Council (CCBC) aims to use its network of Canada-California based business, political and social leaders to connect bi-lateral opportunities that will result in new job creation, increased foreign direct investment and increased trade.
ProCon.org, online at www.procon.org, is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit public charity dedicated to promoting critical thinking, education, and informed citizenship by presenting controversial issues in a straightforward, nonpartisan, primarily pro-con format. ProCon.org was founded by the successful LA entrepreneur and philanthropist Steven C. Markoff of A-Mark Financial Corporation.
