The symposium will offer important information about issues affecting stroke survivors and their loved ones, including sessions and panels on neuroplasticity, aphasia awareness, caregiver support, health and wellness, advocacy and more.
Guest speakers scheduled to appear:
10:15 a.m. – Howard Engel, author and stroke survivor

The day will provide information and support in honour of Stroke Recovery Awareness Month in May.
The event is sponsored in part by Linking Survivors with Survivors (LSWS), a volunteer-driven project connecting new stroke survivors with individuals who have already made successful recoveries from stroke. LSWS provides post-stroke peer support for survivors and caregiver and is designed to help individuals and families as they transition from the hospital setting to recovery at home. Through hospital visits, community involvement and peer support groups, new stroke survivors benefit from mentorship and gain a better understanding of their stroke recovery journey.
Linking Survivors with Survivors is managed by Stroke Recovery Canada®, a program of March of Dimes Canada, with participation from the following Chapters/Associations: Kitchener/Waterloo, North Wellington, Guelph-Wellington, and Cambridge, in partnership with Grand River Hospital Stroke Centre and South Regional Stroke Network. It is funded through the Waterloo-Wellington Local Health Integration Network.
As part of the weekend, on Friday, May 10th, Rock for Dimes Guelph
, a corporate battle of the bands will take place at Brass Taps Campus Pub, 50 Stone Road East. Four bands will do battle in support of LSWS. More details on the fundraiser can be found at www.rockfordimes.ca/guelph
