Up Close and Personal with Amy Grant at the Ability & Beyond Gala
The charity’s annual Ability & Beyond Gala, presented by Bell will feature songstress Amy Grant
On Thursday, June 12, 2014 guests at the Bell presents Ability & Beyond Gala will be inspired by the multi-talented singer-songwriter Amy Grant. The dinner, in support of Stroke Recovery Canada® is taking place at the Fairmont Royal York, 100 Front Street West, Toronto, ON.
With six Grammys, numerous Dove Awards, a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Amy Grant is an American music icon who has erased lines between genres and earned the respect of fans and peers with her honesty, vulnerability and ceaseless creativity. She has sold more than 30 million albums over three decades.
The most meaningful work of her life started a few years ago, when her parents were diagnosed with dementia. After arriving home from touring in 2008 and seeing how frail her mother was, Amy cleared her calendar to take care of her. Her mother passed away in 2011 and now she is focusing on caring for her father, who is still living with dementia. Guests will be moved and inspired by Ms. Grant’s personal story of caregiving. The evening will be hosted by Global Toronto anchor Carolyn MacKenzie.
In addition, Dr. Mark Loeb, Professor, Departments of Pathology and Molecular Medicine and Clinical Epidemiology and Biostatistics, Michael G DeGroote Chair in Infectious Diseases and Division Director, Infectious Diseases at McMaster University will be honoured with the Jonas Salk Award for his lifetime work in infectious disease study.
All proceeds benefit Stroke Recovery Canada®, a program of March of Dimes Canada; that helps stroke survivors across the country to re-engage in their communities, and affirm that there is meaningful and quality life after a stroke. It is a national service offering post-recovery support, education and programs for stroke
survivors, their families and health care providers. Over 50,000 Canadians have a stroke annually, and the need for community engagement and integration is growing in importance.
The Gala will also include a live and silent auction. Attendees will be able to bid on exciting trips, sports memorabilia and home appliances, among many other exciting items.
