March of Dimes Canada’s Northern Medical Clinics program offers Northern Ontario patients medical consultations with prominent visiting specialists from the Toronto area. Last year, over 1300 patients came through the clinics, saving them the time, expense and burden of travelling to Toronto to receive specialized medical care.
The program has significantly expanded over the past three years and March of Dimes is pleased to announce that the clinics now offer nine areas of care which includes 16 prominent specialists in the fields of Rheumatology, Osteoporosis, Orthopedic surgery for Hips/Knees, Spine, Paediatrics, Upper Extremities, Hands & Wrists, Feet & Ankles and Sports Medicine.
Dr. Jihad Abouali completed a Fellowship in Sports Medicine and Arthroscopy at the University of Toronto. Prior to this, he earned both his medical degree and completed his residency in Orthopaedic Surgery at McMaster University.
Dr. Abouali is a member of the Division of Orthopaedic Surgery at the Toronto East General Hospital, as part of the University of Toronto. He has been invited to present sports medicine research at numerous national and international conferences. He has consulted with many professional sports teams including the Toronto FC and Toronto Argonauts. In 2015 he was appointed as Lead Medical Doctor for the Toronto 2015 Pan Am Games.
His practice involves treating recreational, amateur and professional athletes with upper and lower extremity injuries, with a special interest in arthroscopic knee and shoulder surgery.
“"I chose to volunteer for March of Dimes to help patients in rural Ontario regain their mobility and enjoy active lifestyles!" says Dr. Abouali.
Dr. Jihad has been a team member since 2013 and he hosts two to three clinics annually. He will be staffing the January 29, 2016 clinic, along with Dr. Markku Nousiainen. Patients must be referred by their family physicians and all surgeries are performed in the Toronto area. Follow-ups are generally arranged through the Northern Medical Clinics.
