MONTREAL ROCKS FOR MARCH OF DIMES CANADA!
11th annual battle of the bands raises over $50,000 for local programs
For Immediate Release – March of Dimes Canada’s 11th annual Rock for Dimes Montreal event smashed all expectations by raising more than $50,000 for kids and adults with disabilities!
Six local bands – The Cellar Rats, Exiled on the Main, Miss M & The Gents, The Sharx, pS, and MTL – rocked the Theatre Corona and
supported March of Dimes Canada while they did.
It was an epic showdown, and picking a winner was tough, but Exiled on the Mail edged out the competition to be crowned Montreal’s best corporate band.
Rock for Dimes Montreal 2017 was phenomenal. Over $55,000 was raised, and it’s all going to benefit Montrealers living with disabilities. This was our most successful Rock for Dimes to date, and the money will stay right here in Montreal, improving people’s lives.
$25,000 of that was generously donated to our Montreal Stroke Club by the Marilyn Takefman Foundation in memory of Marilyn’s husband Stanley Backman.
“We’re just thrilled,” says Mary Lynne Stewart, National Director of Fund Development and Communications for March of Dimes Canada. “Montreal was incredibly generous to us, and that money is going to make an enormous difference to people living with disabilities.’
For the third year in a row, our Assistive Mobile Technology Program provided customized tablets to Montrealers who need them to communicate and live more independently. Antonio Simon-Jones, Ayesha Daniel, Nicholas Yannakis, Valerie Smith, and Omar Lachheb were selected by a local volunteer committee to receive the tablets, which will be loaded with apps that meet their unique needs.
“Tablets are so much more than toys or conveniences,” Stewart added. ‘They’re also tools that help people achieve independence.’
