BREAKING BAD STAR GIVES KEYNOTE SPEECH AT ANNUAL FUNDRAISER
RJ MITTE HELPS RAISE MONEY FOR MARCH OF DIMES CANADA
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Breaking Bad’s RJ Mitte was this year’s special guest at March of Dimes Canada’s Ability & Beyond fundraiser.
Mitte spoke at the annual event, sharing his personal experience of living with cerebral palsy and answering questions from the audience. He also took time to meet with sponsors, and help celebrate a significant and generous donor.
‘It’s so powerful to have a keynote speaker with lived experience, who really understands the need for organizations like March of Dimes Canada,’ said Jason Lye, March of Dimes Canada’s National Director of Independent Living Services.
The evening also included Dr. Mindy Levin accepting the prestigious Jonas Salk Award. Each year, the $10,000 award is given to a Canadian scientist who has contributed significantly to the alleviation, elimination, or prevention of a disabling condition. Dr. Levin was honoured for her work in the field of neurological rehabilitation.
Finally, March of Dimes Canada presented Savaria with the Corporate Spirit Award for their long-standing and significant support. Since 2010, Savaria’s charitable foundation has donated nearly $75,000 to MODC programs and services.
‘Sponsors make it possible for us to do the work we do,’ Lye added. ‘Their support does an enormous amount to change the lives of our consumers.’
The 2017 Ability & Beyond Dinner grossed a total of $195,000, which will benefit March of Dimes Canada’s Conductive Education (CE) program. CE is a ground-breaking type of rehabilitation for kids and adults living with neurological motor disorders like cerebral palsy, Parkinsons disease, and stroke. In its 18-year history, the event has raised about $3.4 million in support of various March of Dimes Caanda programs and services.
‘Conductive Education is just one of the remarkable programs we offer,’ said Lye.
