DesignAbility volunteers help individuals overcome barriers to daily living; taking solutions from inception through to the finished product and installation.

Volunteers with experience in wood, metal, or plastic fabrication and/or knowledge about assistive devices are particularly needed.

If you are a health professional, consider the benefits of volunteering your time and consulting expertise to DesignAbility:

  • Be linked to a national network of professional engineers, designers, manufacturers and health professional that can assist you in serving your clients.
  • Connect with local volunteers who can build or modify a device to suit the needs of your client
  • Stay abreast of March of Dimes news including recreation programs, cruises and travel that are accessible and designed with your clients in mind.
  • Participate in and promote your services and ideas at assistive device design competitions, special events, seminars, workshops, conferences and work with Universities and experts in the research and design of new assistive devices.

Your commitment with DesignAbility is flexible -- on average, volunteers devote about 4-10 hours per month to the program.
