ALBERTA APHASIA CAMP

Alberta Aphasia Camp 2014

For individuals who are living with aphasia (may be accompanied by one of their family members or friends).
 

March of Dimes Canada and the University of Alberta are partnering up again to bring you the 4th annual Alberta Aphasia Camp, a weekend-long camp held every September. It is held in a rustic outdoor camp away from the hustle and bustle of the city. It provides an opportunity for individuals who are living with aphasia, as well as one of their family members or friends, to enjoy a weekend retreat.

Location: ​Gull Lake Centre, 28116 RR3, Lacombe, Alberta.

Activities: Activities are both recreational and therapeutic in nature. The staff and volunteers are all educated about aphasia and support communication techniques.​ Here campers get to participate in diverse activities such as:  
  • yoga
  • drum circle 
  • high and low ropes
  • indoor and outdoor games
  • arts and crafts
  • nature walks
  • fireside activities

Sea to Sky Aphasia CampThe Sea to Sky Aphasia Camp is based on a community-university partnership that brings together people with aphasia, their family members, and students from a wide variety of health professions. The weekend-long camp offers an opportunity for all participants to connect with and learn from one another while enjoying organized recreational activities in the beauty of Squamish, BC.

ONTARIO APHASIA CAMP

For individuals who are living with aphasia (may be accompanied by one of their family members or friends).

 

March of Dimes Canada offered a two-days-long Ontario Aphasia Camp again this year. Each year it offers a fun, educational, and entertaining retreat for people with aphasia and their family members or friends. 

Location: ​YMCA Wanakita, Haliburton, Ontario

Opportunity to:

  • Have a holiday in an aphasia-friendly environment
  • Learn and share with others who are living with aphasia
  • Experience new or adapted recreational and leisure activities
  • Activities include; adaptive biking, adaptive golf, adaptive high ropes, archery, campfires, fishing, gardening, kayaking, scavenger hunts, yoga, and much more!
