Helping Youth Achieve Employment Success

Skills for Work assists youth seeking employment to acquire skills and knowledge to overcome employment barriers and to be successful in the job market, today and in the future.​

Skills for Work program provides:
  • 3 weeks in-class employability skills development and 2 weeks job preparation training before work begins to assist participants in getting prepared for the work world
  • Participants receive a 16-week paid work placement
  • The employer receives a training subsidy
  • Available on-site job coaching assistance, if required
  • Additional supports on the job, as required
Benefits to Participants
Group of Youths
  • Participants earn wages while attending the program
  • Classroom Employability Skills Training allows participants to learn and practice skills for getting and keeping a job
  • Skills assessment for job success
  • Resume Development and Job Search Assistance
  • Paid short-term work experience to practice employability skills
  • 16-week paid employment placement to establish a work history and secure a reference, potential for permanent employment
  • On the job support and job coaching when needed
  • Assistance and support from March of Dimes Canada job developers to get and keep a job

Eligibility Requirements

To participate in the program, youth must be:
  • 15 to 30 years of age at time of the program
  • Looking for assistance to overcome employment barriers and to secure employment
