March of Dimes Canada (MODC) vision is the creation of an inclusive, barrier-free society for people with disabilities; and our mission is to be Canada’s leading service provider, resource and advocate, empowering people with disabilities to live and thrive in communities nationwide.

Impact of the Role
After Stroke Chapters play an important role in supporting stroke survivors in communities across Canada. In the Chapters, stroke survivors will find a space for learning about recovery, gathering resources, and socializing with other people in similar situations who share common experiences. Members at large are expected to support activities organized by MODC and/or their local chapter, attend meetings and welcome new members. Please note that this volunteer opportunity is only for stroke survivors or caregivers.

Main Responsibilities 
  • Attend all monthly Committee and Chapter meetings 
  • Arrive early to meetings and set up room and welcome all individuals
  • Be familiar with the agenda prior to all meetings
  • Participate in and attend community functions, fundraisers, and events
  • Manage all tasks and responsibilities assigned by the executive
  • Respect others’ privacy, wishes, values, rights and beliefs
  • Record and report volunteer hours on a monthly basis
  • Adhere to all MODC policies, procedures and guidelines

Staff Supervisor: Volunteer Engagement Coordinator (VEC)
Time Commitment: Once or twice per month plus occasional events
Start/End Date: Flexible
Location: Kitchener/Waterloo, Hamilton, Windsor, Guelph and London

Desired Skills and Experience
  • 18 years of age or older (required)
  • Must be a stroke survivor, caregiver or someone with knowledge of stroke recovery (preferred) 
  • Willing to participate in group activities

Additional Considerations 

March of Dimes Canada has a mandatory COVID-19 vaccination policy. All volunteers must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 by receiving all required doses of a vaccine approved by Health Canada at least 14 days prior to the commencement of their placement, or as otherwise recommended by public health authorities. We will provide reasonable accommodation to individuals who are unable to be vaccinated for medical reasons or on the basis of any other protected ground, as required under applicable human rights legislation.
