The Opportunity: ​

At March of Dimes Canada (MODC), our Early Learning program Move Learn Grow helps children with disabilities thrive through play-based learning, pediatric occupational therapy, and family support. Led by Occupational Therapists, assistants, and volunteers, the program takes place in our newly redesigned, fully equipped space.


We’re looking for enthusiastic volunteers to support our spring consultation program from May 3–29, 2025. Volunteers will assist OTs during one-on-one consultations with children and caregivers, gaining hands-on experience in a clinical, play-based setting. Shifts will be scheduled based on availability, and volunteers will play an important role in helping the program run smoothly.

Main Responsibilities
  •  Assist OTs with setup and cleanup for assessments and consultations.
  • ​ Organize and arrange resources and materials needed for each session.
  • Welcome and engage with children and families to promote comfort and rapport.
  • Support children in play while OTs speak with parents or caregivers, ensuring safety and participation.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and inviting environment for service users.
  • Demonstrate reliability, punctuality, and a proactive, flexible attitude in supporting program needs.
  • Communicate respectfully and professionally with staff, children, and caregivers.

Time Commitment: Ability to commit to 1-2 shifts (up to 4 hours) per week at minimum for 3-4 weeks, for the Spring Consultation program offering.

Skills and Experience
  • 18 years of age and older.   
  • Excellent communication skills: including patience and willingness to learn about various disabilities and barriers. 
  • Experience working with infants, children, and youth, including neuro-typical, neuro-divergent, and those with developmental differences is considered an asset. 
  • Experience working with children in a recreational or community setting (e.g. YMCA, camps, community centres) is considered an asset. 
  • Respect for individuality and diversity, with excellent interpersonal skills to build trusting relationships with clients and their families. 
Screening Considerations
A Vulnerable Sector Screening is required for this role. 

Physical Considerations
  • This role may involve standing for extended periods and light lifting (up to 15 lbs). We're happy to provide seating, breaks, or other accomodations based on your needs.
  • Comfortable performing reptitive motions such as reaching, bending, stretching, standing, and kneeling while participating in games, activities, or assisting with toys and equipment.
