The Opportunity:

The SkillingUp, Digital Fundamentals program empowers individuals with disabilities across Canada to build their digital skills and become engaged in the digital world. With ever changing advancements in technology, it can be hard to keep up. You can read more about the program here. 


The Digital Fundamentals Group Instructor will lead virtual workshops to train clients to understand, access, and use technology at a basic level.  Workshops typically last 1hr to 1.5 hours, depending on the content and group engagement. Frequency of these workshops is dependent on requests of our community partners. 

Some of the topics we provide in our workshops include managing your digital footprint, tech etiquette, online safety (including romance scams, grandparent scams, and employment scams), privacy and security, social media, basics of AI, etc.


Main Responsibilities 

  • Review and understand the core workshop concepts before each session (all content is already developed)  
  • Lead group discussions and demonstrations on a wide range of topics, including accessibility features on mobile devices (Apple and Android), computer accessibility, assistive apps, smart home technology, and more. 
  • Gain an understanding of the audience and potential barriers with their technology and adjust how the content is presented to the group (including pace, language used, etc.) 
  • Encourage group interaction, ensuring that everyone feels comfortable asking questions and engaging with the content 
  • Be prepared to answer questions and clarify any concepts, as participants may have varying levels of familiarity with technology 
  • Share relevant and available tools and resources as needed to further support participants 
  • Take brief session notes to track attendance and effectiveness of presentation and to record any feedback or suggestions from participants  
  • Ensure proper logging of hours in Volgistics and keep Manager up to date on successes and challenges  

Time Commitment: Minimum 6 month commitment 
Location:  Virtual 

 

Skills and Experience

  • 16 years of age and older
  • A friendly, warm, compassionate, and genuine personality
  • Excellent communication skills: including patience and willingness to learn about various disability and barriers
  • Optimistic, upbeat attitude, conscientious and reliable
  • Tech savviness and troubleshooting skills
  • Access to a computer and reliable internet connection
  • A quiet work environment to ensure privacy and no interruptions /distractions
