The Opportunity:

The Paving the Path to Work program is a free, six-week pre-employment course designed for individuals with disabilities. It helps participants build confidence, develop soft skills like communication and time management, explore workplace norms and assistive technologies, and overcome barriers to employment.

The Program Support Volunteer plays a key role in creating a safe, welcoming, and engaging environment for service users. By supporting the Skills Instructor, the volunteer helps reduce safety risks, ensures smooth coordination of activities, and contributes to a more seamless program experience. This position also provides an added layer of connection and support for service users, helping to uplift their mood and promote a sense of comfort by being a familiar and friendly presence throughout their time in the program.

Main Responsibilities

  • Support service users in the lobby during arrival and departure, ensuring they are safely escorted to and from the program space 
  • Support a peaceful and safe environment during outings by helping manage group dynamics 
  • Participate actively in group activities to encourage engagement from service users 
  • Refer to videos or materials provided for program use, and adapt as needed to meet situational needs 
  • Help maintain a calm and welcoming environment by engaging with service users and redirecting as needed throughout the learning session 
  • Assist the Instructor with distributing materials (e.g., handouts, iPads) during program sessions 
  • Contribute to a program evaluation by collecting participant feedback i.e., quotes, and taking pictures of those who provided consent. 

Time Commitment: 6 week session, on either Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays from 1pm - 4pm
Locations:  Mississauga, 201-2227 South Millway

Skills and Experience
  • 16 years of age and older 
  • Prior experience in a support, education, or care environment is an asset but not required 
  • Team-oriented and committed to creating a positive and inclusive experience for service users 
  • Able to remain calm and professional in dynamic or high-energy environments 
  • Enjoys working with individuals in a support program setting 
  • Commitment to creating a barrier-free and inclusive society by respecting the rights, dignity, and individuality of people with disabilities
