The Opportunity:

Aphasia Peer Connect is a 10-week volunteer led social group for people with aphasia and other acquired communication disabilities. The Virtual Communication Program Facilitator will provide a safe and supportive environment for participants to engage in conversations and increase life participation. The volunteer will learn and apply supportive communication strategies with guidance and support from Communicative Disorders Assistants.   


Main Responsibilities

  • Assist program staff in facilitating weekly groups on Zoom Use a variety of supportive communication strategies to enhance group participation 
  • Report on client successes and challenges during the pre and post meetings with staff and volunteers 
  • Prepare materials and resources for the communication groups in advance 
  • Report any lateness and absences to staff in a timely manner 
  • Record and report weekly volunteer hours 
  • Adhere to all MODC (March of Dimes Canada) policies, procedures, and guidelines 

Locations: 
Virtual- Tue 10:45 AM – 12:15 PM EST
Thu 10:45 AM - 12:15 PM

Time Commitment: 3 hours per week

Qualities We’re Looking For:
  • 18 years of age or older  
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills 
  • Initiative driven and ability to work well on a team 
  • Optimistic, upbeat attitude, conscientious and reliable 
  • The role involves prolonged computer use, including sitting for extended periods and performing tasks such as typing, viewing a screen, and using standard office software 
  • Access to a personal computer with a camera, microphone, and speaker, along with a stable internet connection, is required
