Newfoundland and Nova Scotia: After Stroke Program Assistant


The Opportunity:

After Stroke is a personalized stroke recovery program that helps survivors and their families navigate the path forward after a stroke. Our support extends throughout every phase of recovery: from the earliest days in the hospital, to transitioning back home, to the changes and victories that follow. The program aims to optimize recovery outcomes and offer stroke survivors individual support and community throughout the recovery journey.  

The Program Assistant plays a key role in this process by helping the Volunteer Engagement Coordinators in administrative tasks and community outreach. This role includes a variety of tasks and responsibilities, both virtual and in-person, which the Program Assistant can choose from based on their interest. There is no expectation that the Program Assistant will engage in all the tasks and responsibilities listed below unless they wish to do so.

Main Responsibilities

    Virtual:

  • Research opportunities and channels for community outreach and engagement, including advertising opportunities
  • Debrief with the Coordinator on a regular basis or when needed 
  • Update marketing materials using templates 
  • Record volunteer hours monthly using online volunteer platform

    In-Person:

  • Take inventory of printed materials 
  • Be a program ambassador by attending community events representing MODC and the After Stroke program alongside a staff member 
  • Assist with packing for and unpacking from events 
  • Set up and tear down of information table or booth at event venue 
  • Be familiar with and able to discuss After Stroke program and services 
  • Keep record of community contacts/interested individuals made at events
  • Office Support (only in locations with MODC office)
  • Organize printed materials (brochures etc.) 
Locations: St.Johns, Newfoundland or Halifax, Nova Scotia
Time Commitment:
 Provide support at monthly meetings and events as needed

Skills and Experience
  • 16 years of age and older 
  • Commitment to creating a barrier-free and inclusive society by respecting the rights, dignity, and individuality of people with disabilities 
  • Confidence speaking to members of the public 
  • The role may involve prolonged computer use, including sitting for extended periods and performing tasks such as typing, viewing a screen, and using standard office software 
  • This position may require the ability to sit, stand, lift and bend as needed
