Help increase self-confidence, independence and improve quality of life of adults living with aphasia and acquired communication disabilities due to stroke, brain injury or illness. The Virtual Communication Program Facilitator helps clients in a group setting on Zoom, by learning and applying supportive communication techniques. With guidance and support from Communicative Disorders Assistants, the volunteer provides clients with opportunities to engage in conversation and increase life participation.
Tasks and Responsibilities
Use a variety of virtual supportive communication strategies to encourage client participation
Participate in program pre and post meetings with staff and volunteers
Review program plans before weekly Zoom meetings
Record and report weekly volunteer hours
Report any absences to staff in a timely manner
- Adhere to all MODC policies, procedures and guidelines
Time Commitment: 1.5 hours per week
Current Openings: Mon 12:45-2:15pm EST, Tue 10:45 am– 12:15 pm EST, Thu 12:45 – 2:15 pm EST

Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Must be 18 years of age or older
Access to a device with webcam and microphone, and a stable internet connection
Comfortable using the features of a virtual meeting platform or willing to learn
Reliable, collaborative, empathetic and patient
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Able to take verbal and/or written direction and follow through to complete assigned tasks
