Meet the Presenters

Lynn Renton, OT 


Lynn Renton is an Occupational Therapist with more than 30 years of experience in Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) care, working across a full range of services. As the Coordinator for the Nova Scotia Health Provincial ABI Network, she is dedicated to increasing awareness and improving access to vital supports for individuals living with brain injury throughout Nova Scotia. Lynn is deeply passionate about empowering people to live well after brain injury and stroke and time and again has witnessed the impact of connection in their recovery journeys. Based in Halifax, she enjoys balancing quality time with family and friends alongside solo activities like crochet.

Francene Gillis, a lifelong writer from Port Hood, Cape Breton, has spent over five decades crafting stories across genres, inspired by personal loss and resilience. A passionate educator and community activist, she taught high school English for 25 years while writing a weekly human interest column and advocating through her book A Rose in November. After a traumatic brain injury in 2016 ended her teaching career, Francene turned to memoir writing, sharing her journey in Where Did I Go?, a powerful account of recovery, invisible injuries, and hope. She continues to inspire others through her writing, outreach, and online presence, reminding those facing adversity that they are not alone. Learn more at francenegillis.ca and on Facebook.
